There’s a particular worry that comes with loving people — you can’t be everywhere they are, and you can’t control the roads they drive or the rooms they walk into. Praying for protection is what you do with that helplessness instead of just carrying it around all day.
Father, You are my shelter — the place I run to when the world feels unsafe. I’m asking You to cover the people I love today. Watch the roads they drive, the rooms they sit in, the decisions in front of them.
Where there’s danger I can’t see, stand between us and it. Where there’s danger I can see and can’t do anything about, give me peace instead of dread. I’m trusting You as the One who never stops watching. Amen.

Father, I lift up everyone under my roof. Cover them the way a mother hen covers her chicks. Watch them coming and going. Keep our home a safe place, and drive back anything that would come to hurt it.

When the threat isn’t physical
Ephesians 6:12 says the real fight underneath everything isn’t against people — it’s spiritual. That’s a strange thing to hear until you’ve had a season where nothing you can point to is wrong, and yet something feels off. Lord, before anything else today, I’m putting on what You’ve given me — truth around my waist, righteousness over my heart, peace under my feet, faith as my shield, salvation as my helmet, and Your word as the only weapon I need.

At the end of the day
There’s something about turning off the lights that makes the mind wander toward every worst-case scenario. Psalm 4:8 has a good answer to that: “I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” Isaiah 54:17 backs it up with a promise that whatever forms against you won’t have the final word.
Lord, as I close my eyes tonight, I’m trusting You to keep watch over this house and everyone in it. I don’t have to stay alert for danger — that’s not my job tonight. Let me sleep in peace, knowing You won’t. Amen.
